Personal Message:
"Aim high, make all goals lateral." I heard that quote from an episode of Def Poetry Jam when I was in high school and it always stuck with me and tonight I am leaning on it more than ever! I started out this campaign bright eyed me bushy tailed with a limited understanding of how politics really worked. I ran a campaign with the best of intentions to truly make a difference in the lives of children in my community. I lost my campaign manager mid-way through the election and was 'heavily encouraged' to drop out of the race repeatedly, but I refused. I knew I had what it took to sway 14,000 citizens to believe in me. So I shook off the naysayers and continued to fight for my beliefs.
I lost my first political campaign but I'm still proud of my campaign. Thank you everyone... who casted a vote for me, who encouraged me when I didn't know what to do, who donated to my campaign, who hosted a fundraiser, who gave me advice, who encouraged me to drop out, who told me I wouldn't get the endorsement in the first place, who drove from Maryland, who drove from Dayton, who called and texted and stopped me in laundromats and grocery stores and parks and school buildings and coffee shops and told me why they believed in my campaign.
Thank you to everyone who was involved in my campaign, you made me stronger and wiser and better... besides, Obama lost his first campaign, right!!
